Data Policy

So, chances are, if you’re anything like us, you’ve received a few dozen e-mails from companies trying to talk to you about your personal data and how they now have a very confusing data protection policy that they’re sure you’re really keen to read which probably requires you to click a “yes” or tick a check box at the end.

What you probably didn’t expect was for a small family-owned Bridal Shop to also have to brief you on the same subject. The only difference is is that we’d like to keep it simple and just re-assure you you’ve got nothing to worry about by using 3 simples categories, “What do we have?”, “Why do we have it?”, “What rights do I have?”.

“What do we have?”

By this, we’re not talking about the beautiful wedding dresses we have hanging in our shop, we’re referring to “personal data”. We keep your name, address, contact number and e-mail address, notes about your appointment and a copy of your order form. That’s it. We DO NOT store any debit or credit card information.

“Why do we have it?”

Fairly obviously, this information is just used to contact you, process your order and help you. If you call us up and say “Ooo, I loved the second dress I tried on, what was it called?” the last thing we want to do is turn around and say “I’m sorry, I don’t keep that information”. We want to be as helpful as possible so we will keep the information relevant to your appointment. Your order form is also your contract. For the protection of both sides, this is retained.

“What rights do I have?”

Two important rights you have are: 1) The right to know what data is stored about you, and 2) The right to be forgotten. Whilst we have explained the data we keep about you, you are always welcome to e-mail us (info@berkeleybridal.com) requesting it. Similarly, if you wish for us to delete your personal data, then you can request this, we won’t take it personally! The only thing we can’t delete is the contract you have with us as this is a legal document.

Again, we are sorry we have to take up your time with this information and well done if you’ve actually got this far through the policy. If you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to contact us, we’d love to hear from you.
